I am not an expert on the male and female dog, but from experience I have noticed a few things for you to consider.
Its all personal preference since their are pros and cons of both sexes. Also, each dog is an individual and different breeds may reflect different personalities.
Males
Some males are enthusiastic "humpers" and try to mount other dogs, toys or maybe even your foot. Also, most males lift their leg to urinate. This can be a consideration if you have expensive shrubbery or yard ornaments. They can also be territorial, marking anything and everything standing with their "scent". Neutering can sometimes help with these behaviors, but is not 100% effective.
Females
The female, on the other hand has periods of being "in heat" unless she is spayed. During this time she can leave a bloody discharge on carpets, couches, or anywhere she goes. She will be particularly moody and emotional during this time. A walk outside during this period can become hazardous if male dogs are in the vicinity. Before deciding on a male or female, give consideration to any other dogs that may be in or around your home.
When it comes to finding the perfect canine companion, of course, the individual dog matters more than his or her gender. Each dog is unique, and all surveys have their limitations. Keeping in mind some general differences, dogs of either sex can be excellent pets, especially with a
little help from their genes and some consistent training.
